Vintage 6” plastic pocket ruler featuring advertising for MARCHANT CALCULATORS on one side and a 1959 calendar in the reverse. The Marchant Calculating Machine Company was founded in 1911 and based in Oakland, CA. They built mechanical calculators (the predecessor to modern electric and battery operated calculators). The company changed its name to Marchant Calculators in 1952, and merged with Smith Corona Typewriters in 1958 to form Smith-Corona Marchant Inc.. Marchant Calculators was one of the corporation's major divisions and, that same year, opened a new headquarters at 6701 San Pablo Avenue in Oakland named The Marchant Building. That building is featured on this advertising pocket ruler which was made a year later in 1959. Ruler is in excellent condition with very little signs of age or wear. Displays Beautifully! A very nice piece of industrial advertising!! See pics for more details.
