Details
These are traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs, known as pysanky, which are decorated using a wax-resist method similar to batik. The word "pysanka" comes from the Ukrainian word for "to write". The intricate designs are created by applying melted beeswax with a stylus called a kistka to an egg before dipping it into a succession of dyes. The tradition dates back to pagan times and the eggs are considered symbols of new life and rebirth. The designs often incorporate traditional Ukrainian folk and religious symbols, and receiving one as a gift is considered a great honor
