Details

Tiger is carved from a towering section of Texas pecan distinguished by pronounced natural spalting, a rare condition that produces dark mineralized lines and concentrated orange-black patterning within the wood. Vertical bands of amber, gold, and deep brown rise through the column, while irregular spalted markings introduce contrast and visual tension that give the work its name.

A carved internal chamber introduces light from within the form, allowing illumination to travel downward through the pecan’s dense heartwood. As the light activates both grain and spalted areas, shifts between smooth, sculpted planes and raw, textured passages become more pronounced, reinforcing the material’s natural movement without softening its strength.

Anchored by a stainless-steel base, Tiger stands tall and assertive—defined by verticality, contrast, and the controlled interplay between mass, pattern, and light.

Each Arte LUMIS piece is one-of-a-kind.

Arte LUMIS is a Texas-based light art studio creating one-of-a-kind sculptural lighting from solid, sustainably sourced wood.

Each piece begins as a single log or cross-section—often reclaimed locally—and is transformed through a slow, hands-on process of carving, burning, and refinement. Light is then integrated into the form, revealing hidden structures, depth, and movement within the wood itself.

The result is not a lamp, but a functional sculpture—designed to anchor a space, shift atmosphere, and create presence.

No two pieces are ever alike. Each work carries the natural history of the material, including its origin, often documented down to GPS coordinates.

Arte LUMIS works with designers, architects, and private collectors seeking statement pieces that live at the intersection of art, design, and light.
