Sugarloaf, by Sugarloaf, marked their debut and reached No. 24 on the Billboard Top LPs chart. Originally formed as Chocolate Hair in Denver, Colorado, in 1968, the band changed their name to Sugarloaf, inspired by a mountain near Boulder, to avoid potential racial misinterpretations. The album is best known for the hit single Green-Eyed Lady, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1970, becoming a defining psychedelic rock track with its distinctive organ and bass work. The album’s mix of psychedelic rock, jazz, and blues, produced by Frank Slay, captured the early 1970s sound but was noted by critics as uneven beyond its standout hit.
