Kanashimi no Hana ni (To the Flower of Sadness), by Sugar Soul, was released as a single from their album On. This 12" single marked their major label debut under Warner Music Japan after an independent start, blending contemporary R&B with Japanese soul elements and featuring vocalist aico's emotive delivery alongside DJ Hasebe's production touches, including notable remixes like the DJ Hasebe version that added bounce and club appeal. The track stands out for its melancholic yet soulful vibe exploring themes of sorrow, earning it a place in late '90s J-R&B scene as a fan-favorite for its heartfelt lyrics and smooth grooves. It achieved moderate success in Japan, peaking at No. 75 on the charts with around 11,000 sales.
