It's removeable, but it can also swivel and hide away if you want to keep it attached but only need it intermittently. If you have (or are planning to have) other Peak Design bags, this hip belt also works with the Travel Backpack 30L, and all variants of the V2 Everyday Backpacks (20L, 30L, and Zip). I used this bag on two short plane trips total, and it's been sitting in my closet unused otherwise. Very very (very) minor cosmetic wear on some of the metal hardware and fabric.
