The Magic Show, by the Original Broadway Cast, is the original cast recording of a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz that uniquely integrated spectacular illusions performed by magician Doug Henning, who starred despite lacking traditional singing or dancing skills. A standout feature of the original vinyl release was an included insert that could be cut and assembled into a colorful hexaflexagon, a multi-sided rotating paper magic trick. The show itself achieved historical significance as a long-running Broadway hit with nearly 2,000 performances, contributing to Schwartz having three major musicals on Broadway simultaneously in the mid-1970s. Fan-favorites include the poignant Lion Tamer, sung by Dale Soules, the bluesy West End Avenue, which became a popular cabaret standard, and the upbeat Solid Silver Platform Shoes. The album captures the energetic ensemble performances of the cast, including notable contributions from Anita Morris and David Ogden Stiers.
