About The Record:

Mozart: Nr. 35, 32 and 38 by Karl Bohm, conducted with the Berliner Philharmoniker, presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphonies Nos. 35 "Haffner," 32 in G major, and 38 "Prager" in elegant, period-informed performances that showcase the orchestra's renowned precision and warmth. The Haffner Symphony, originally composed in 1782 to celebrate Sigmund Haffner's ennoblement and later adapted for concert use, stands out as a historically significant work bridging Mozart's operatic flair with symphonic grandeur, featuring its lively Allegro con spirito opener as a perennial fan-favorite for its infectious energy. Similarly, the Prager Symphony of 1786-87, premiered in Prague to ecstatic acclaim that solidified Mozart's international reputation, includes a dramatic Adagio introduction unique among his mature symphonies, while the concise Symphony No. 32 from 1779 offers a compact, spirited gem with its innovative three-movement structure blending sonata and rondo forms. Karl Bohm's interpretations, drawn from his deep association with the Berliner Philharmoniker since the 1960s, highlight a historically pivotal collaboration that influenced mid-20th-century Mozart recordings, emphasizing rhythmic vitality and transparent textures. Among the movements, the Haffner's Presto finale and the Prager's Presto closer emerge as popular highlights, celebrated for their exuberant drive and orchestral brilliance.
