About The Record:

Anthology, by Commodores, is a comprehensive double-disc compilation that chronicles the funk and soul band’s career from their early 1970s Motown beginnings through their 1980s pop crossover success. It features a range of their signature sounds, blending gritty funk tracks like Machine Gun and Brick House with smooth ballads such as Easy and Three Times a Lady, showcasing their versatility and Lionel Richie’s emotive vocals. Historically significant for capturing the band’s evolution during Motown’s peak and their role in bridging funk with mainstream pop, the album highlights their influence on R&B and pop music. Hit singles included are Brick House (a 1977 funk anthem), Easy (a 1977 chart-topping ballad), Three Times a Lady (a 1978 No. 1 hit), and Nightshift (a 1985 Grammy-winning tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson). The collection serves as a definitive overview of the Commodores’ legacy.
