Land of Make Believe, released in 1973, is the eighth album by jazz artist Chuck Mangione, recorded live at Massey Hall in Toronto with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra and featuring vocalist Esther Satterfield. This album blends jazz, pop, classical, and Latin influences, showcasing Mangione’s signature flugelhorn and his ability to merge diverse musical styles. Historically significant for its role in Mangione’s rise to prominence, it followed his Grammy-nominated Friends & Love concert and marked a peak in his early career with Mercury Records. The title track, Land of Make Believe, became a notable single, reaching No. 86 on the US charts, while other tracks like Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor and As Long as We’re Together also gained attention. The album’s crossover appeal helped solidify Mangione’s reputation as a leading figure in 1970s jazz-pop.
