Dylan, by Bob Dylan, released in 1973 by Columbia Records, is a compilation of outtakes and unreleased tracks from earlier recording sessions, primarily from the Self Portrait and New Morning periods. It was issued without Dylan's direct involvement, as Columbia sought to capitalize on his popularity while he was temporarily signed to Asylum Records, marking a historically significant moment of label conflict. The album features a mix of folk, rock, and country influences, with tracks like Lily of the West and Sarah Jane showcasing Dylan's versatility, though it received mixed reviews for its lack of cohesion. No hit singles emerged from Dylan, as it was not promoted with single releases, and its commercial performance was modest compared to Dylan's major works. Historically, the album is notable for reflecting the tensions between Dylan and Columbia during his brief departure from the label.
