Antique Dithridge Victorian Milk Glass Star Gold Trim Trinket Dish Circa 1880s An antique, Victorian milk glass dish or small plate, also known as a trinket or pin dish. While largely an outer hexagon or 6-sided shape, this has an impressed deep center section in the shape of a 6 pointed star, also known as a Star of David. There is molded raised beading, curlicues, and a suggestive floral design. Some detection of the gold paint may be visible. Measures about 5 5/8 inches greatest width, sitting about 9/16 inch in height. Very good age appropriate condition. No chips, cracks, or breaks. Areas of minimal wear. See pictures.
While an overall white color with dark gold highlighting, this is not the bright solid white of mid 1900s milk glass, but the more opaline white of Victorian milk glass. When held up to a light, this piece is translucent. As common with Victorian milk glass, the very outer edges have an opal type clarity rather than being solid white right to the edges of the piece.
