This is an antique trinket box, with a colorful enamel coating! Made in China in the early 1900s, this piece would have been part of a set exported to the American market. The gorgeous enamel was all hand laid and blended, set into the little copper cloisons that form the beautiful flower pattern. That yellow is quite striking; hundreds of years ago, yellow was reserved for the Imperial family! Condition: This box is in Good condition! While most of this box is in fine shape for being an antique, there is a bit of damage. The box has been dropped on a back corner, which damaged a small section of enamel both inside and outside of the lid. The same fall also bent the hinge slightly, and while it still opens just fine, the lid sets down a little off center. Additionally, there are some manufacturing flaws, as this type of exportware was inexpensively made. There are a lot of bubbles in the enamel on this particular box, which left sprays of tiny pitting, both inside and out. There are also a couple of areas where the enamel was so thin it doesn't fully cover the copper. These types of flaws are extremely common, but fortunately they don't affect the overall beauty of the piece! Size: The box measures 3" across, is 2½" wide, and sits 1¾" tall with the lid closed.
