Antique 1850s Ambrotype Civil War Era Man Red Velvet Union Case Signed & Dated
Details
Really handsome thermoplastic & red velvet union case with a glass framed ambrotype of a dapper young man on the inside. This is from an estate and is dated 1858. Even more interesting, it is signed and dated by the artist, Thomas L Summeril of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and has the original price of $3. That's the modern equivalent of about $115. I've included one of Summeril's 1857 ads for the studio where this picture would have been taken. Incredible history in this little union case!
