Antique 1700-1800s Georgian English Tavern Copper Boot Ale Muller Warmer England. Rare slipper shaped copper vessel designed to warm (mull) beer. The home-made ale or cider was poured into a stone mug by the 18th century Innkeeper then placed in the circular end of the Copper Muller. The tapered part or 'shoe' is gently pushed into the glowing embers of the fire until it is considered warm enough to drink. Warm beer was thought to be healthier than cold especially during the long harsh winters. **This one has a little bend in the tip of the "boot". Also, there appears to be some glue on the bottom. Looks like someone had it displayed on a wall by hot glue or something similar. I will leave it up to the buyer to remove the glue. Purchased at an estate sale with many other wonderful old things.
