Details

Aloe mitriformis "Fuyajo Nishiki" is known by many names such as Aloe mitriformis f variegata, Aloe ferox ‘Variegata’, A. nobilis ‘Fuyajo Nishiki’, A. mitriformis ‘InermoVariegata’, Aloe nobilis ‘Fuyajo Nishiki’ to name few which are all incorrect, but at the same time they are not wrong. At this point is impossible to keep up and this plant in my collection has carried the name indicated for over 10 years. A. mitriformis "Fuyajo Nishiki" is a nursery produced cultivar with leaves that are short lanceolate, medium to darker green with longitudinal yellow stripes of varying thickness, some leaves completely yellow and some with very little green, with yellow marginal teeth 2-3mm long. On the under side of some leaves there are shorter yellow spines at the upper part of a slight keel and a few, scattered yellow spots with a small prickle. Colors seem to be best when the plant is grown in bright light, not full sun. Too much sun will results in the leaf ends turning reddish brown. Continued exposure will result in the green chlorophyll turning red with loss of function. It is believed to grow relatively slowly, but it has not been my expereice. It appears to be available only in small quantities and infrequently. Offsets are produced slowly and some are green. Mother plant is shown in a 6" pot with some of its pups still attached. I have several rooted pups available, shown in 2.5" pots, with some variable degree of variegation. The scaring shown on some of the leaves is due the proximity of the mother plants and each other.
