Details
These tin glazed Dutch Delft tankards were made in 1921 to commemorate the establishment of diplomatic relations relations between the governments of the Netherlands and Venezuela following a treaty to that effect concluded at Caracas on 11 May 1920. They are hand thrown on a potters wheel and painted with typical Delft blue motifs around the Dutch and Venezuelan flags - a fantastic piece of history!
Both are signed underneath Royal Goedewaagen Gouda, Made in Holland and have the original white metal lids. There are potters throwing rims on the inside of the mugs.
Condition: Tankard 1 - The tankard itself is in lovely condition without visible chips or cracks. It does sound like there is a hairline crack somewhere when tapped. The inside and underside are very discoloured, in pink! The top of the lid with some scratches, the underside with what looks like rusting.
Tankard 2 - The tankard itself with lots of crackling to the glaze, both inside and outside, the top edge with a small patch where it looks like they missed the white glazing in production. (looks chipped, but also glazed) and there are a few nibbles long to the bottom ridge. This tankard is both signed in blue and stamped for Goedewaagen Gouda Holland.
Size: ca 5 inches tall without the thumb grip on the lid. (12.5 cm)
